MOT Information

Book MOT Online in Fareham

The Government stipulates that every car (unless a Classic car) has a valid annual MOT certificate once a car is 3 years or more old from the date of first registration.

When can I book my MOT?
You can book your MOT anytime and if you wish to keep the same renewal date, the booking can be up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. This means you don’t have to get stressed by waiting until the last minute.

Can I book my MOT online?
Yes…book here!

Remembering when the MOT is due
You don’t need to when you are one of our customers. Once we have your mobile phone number, we will send you an SMS message 3 weeks before your MOT is going to run out.

How long will the MOT test take?
MOTs take 45 minutes although we allow 1 hour between test slots.

Book Online MOT

You can book your MOT online 24/7. You will also receive a free text reminder when it’s due again for the following year.

Can I turn up early?
We allocate MOT slots in one-hour time slots. We ask our valued customers to arrive 10 minutes early but not earlier than that please.

What happens if I turn up late?
We work on one-hour time slots to respect all our customer’s time. Depending on how late you arrive, we will do the best we can to squeeze you in as soon as possible.

Will you remind me of my appointment?
I usually text you the night before.

What happens if I forget or just don’t turn up?
We have kept your slot for you and if you don’t use it, the slot has gone, I can’t offer it to someone else and I bear all the costs.

Can I drop my car off the night before?
Yes, please park in any of the blue-painted parking spaces opposite our three units and kindly pop your keys in an envelope through the letter box in unit 20 (the first one of our three).

My car has passed with some advisories. Do I need to care about the advisories?
Advisories are things we have spotted that will need fixing in the future. Your car cannot heal itself and this year’s advisories will only get worse by next year’s test unless they are dealt with. Take this year’s advisories as an early heads-up that these issues will need to be taken care of.

My car has failed, but the original MOT still has some days before it expires. Can I still drive the car?
No- the moment the car has failed, it is no longer legal to be driven on the road (unless it’s to an MOT station where it is booked in for a re-test).

Do I have to clean the interior of the car out?
It would be helpful and speed up the process if children’s car seats and larger items were removed ( we need to check the operation of all seat belts). Our staff don’t enjoy having to navigate round-filled Nappies or dog poo bags when they are doing your test…yes it happens quite regularly!

My car has a new MOT. Do I need to get it serviced?
Yes. An MOT will check that the car is safe. It does not check the newness of the engine oil, the condition of spark plugs or belts, when the filters were changed and the level and quality of your antifreeze for example. Cars blow up every day and strand people on the motorway with a valid MOT purely though bad or no maintenance.

Do I have to leave my car with you?
Most customers do, but you are welcome to sit in our reception. I will make you a mug of Tetley Tea, Galaxy Hot Chocolate or Gold Blend Coffee. For colder days we can offer you a choice of cuppa soups (please ask for choices on the day). In addition, we have a large Customer Refreshment fridge freezer with orange and apple juice, chilled bottles of mineral water, Zero Coke, Tango Apple, and Fanta Orange. R Whites Lemonade, Barrs Cream Soda and a selection of ice creams for hotter days. We have treats for our doggy visitors and one-day adult future customers. We have a choice of two customer toilets and Ken Bruce and Popmaster on the radio!

If I leave my car, how will I know the outcome of the test?
If the car has passed, we will text you as soon as it’s ready to collect. If the car has failed, we will price up the cost of sorting the failures out and call you to let you know.

If I can’t pick up my car that night, is it ok to collect it the next morning?
Yes
